February 2007 - The Crumpled Paper Technique

It's important to give yourself targets and achieve goals on a day to day basis. One way you can do this is by using the Crumpled Paper Technique.

First thing in the morning write down your primary goals or outcomes for the day. Crumple up the paper into a ball and stick it in your pocket. Carry the paper around with you all day as a reminder to yourself of your daily goals. At the end of the day open up the paper and check that you've completed your goals - if you have then shred / bin the paper - if you haven't then stick it back in your pocket to add to tomorrows goals.

To further this, make a few of your colleagues write down their goals on a piece of paper and crumple it up. Mix up all the pieces of paper and hand them back out (if a person gets their own goal then they must choose another). Each person now owns the paper with a colleague's goal on it. They must make sure that that goal is achieved by their colleague during the day.
