How sharp is your axe?
Abraham Lincoln famously said “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend the first six sharpening my axe”.
Are you too busy sawing away to take time to sharpen your axe?
Time taken sharpening your axe will improve your personal effectiveness and is the role that earning can play for you.
But learning is not enough – you still have to cut down the tree.
Knowledge without application is ineffective and does nothing to help you achieve your goals – learning needs to be backed up by commitment and positive action.
LEARN - COMMIT - DO
LEARN to use this new motto after every training programme or learning experience.
COMMIT to count how many times in the remainder of this year you learn something new, Commit to it and Do it.
DO a review of your learning at the end of the year to see how far you have come in 2007.
